As of yesterday morning, I've been in the City for an entire month. [Of course, thanks to something of a nervous breakdown, it took him a few extra days to make himself known on the network...] I wanted to see how everyone who initially greeted me is faring. I haven't forgotten the words we shared - yours, especially.
[She's touched, not accustomed to that amount of reaching out. It's different, gentle. There's a short pause before she sends the rest of the message, mulling it over in her head first.]
heh, you were the one that had cool things to say! i'm not great with words or languages... but that's sweet. 'm doing good. i got out of the apartments finally and moved into a townhouse. how about you? has your first month been all right?
[Without Shinji-kun's stars, it has felt like an eternity and then some.]
My first month has been very engaging. Many new people to meet with. Many new things to learn about. That includes learning new things about myself that I wouldn't have guessed. Admittedly, I'm not sure how to feel about some of it. The colorful water is strange. [...] But I'm glad to know you're all right. You seem settled in yourself.
[As if there's anything else to learn about yourself over here that she can figure. Haruki's banality has almost a practiced quality to it. But she's starting to wonder if there's a reason beyond him just checking to see how she's doing that he's sent her the text. And she's taking a stab in the dark at said reason.]
did you get turned into a girl? i can lend you some bras if that's it, no problem.
[Kaworu has genuinely wondered about Haruki's happiness, just as he has with everyone else he's encountered. Still, Haruki is correct to assume that there's an ulterior motive in play here... Maybe he's completely mistaken, but he has to start somewhere and it's nice to learn more about someone as an individual. He used the word association game as cover in order to gather information, too. He can be cunning when he wants to be.]
No, I haven't been affected by the pink water. In combination, blue and green made for a memorable experience, [because "memorable" is definitely one way of describing horrifying instinct-driven vore,] but green on its own has led to greater discovery. I'm wondering if it's unreasonable to derive pleasure from feeling pain.
[But there's no accusatory or argumentative note to the comment, just simple statement of fact, one that didn't really correspond that well to the way he'd talked. Maybe he's a prodigy. Something like that.]
[Her musing on that subject, though, takes an abrupt turn at his last sentence. Pleasure from feeling pain. It makes her hesitant, almost suspicious at first, wondering what he knows, if he's heard anything about her-- no, no, she's been careful, and no one she's slept with would ever dare admit what they'd done with her--]
i don't think so. lots of people like that. as long as you're careful, yeah?
[But that's so painfully, needlessly evasive. And Kaworu, as far as she knows, isn't out for anything, isn't trying to dig up dirt on her, find out secrets that need to stay that way. Haruki pauses before finally, almost guiltily adding:]
if you want to try it out again, i could help. i've done stuff like that before, i'd be careful.
[Kaworu isn't feigning surprise or the relief that follows. He's perfectly honest in all of his interactions, and maybe that's apparent in the jauntiness of his written words. For a few days, he worried that pleasure-from-pain might be an extension of his Angelic instincts, a tendency to be locked away and ignored forever... Instead, maybe it's something he should try to enjoy. It made him feel good. Comfortable in his skin. The similar comfort he feels from playing the piano isn't related to being an Angel.
Now he's more earnest, even excited:]
With the green water, you wouldn't need to be careful. Any and all wounds mend without fail; it's really interesting. I'd like to try again. If not with you, then with someone. You don't have to if you don't want to. Would you like to help me?
[Haruki's violent interests never occurred to him, but his surreptitious observing did give him a sense of... well, she might be hiding something. He's known many Lilin like that, of course. It isn't unusual. Even so, they bonded over the spirit of aloha and that's like a promise of good fortune. It seems speaking to her first was a fortunate decision.]
[Lots of people she knows, at least, though what that says for her taste in partners, she's not certain and rarely spends much time worrying about. Haruki wouldn't count herself in that number, not necessarily, but then, she's never experienced it as the receiver before.]
yeah. i wanna try.
[And she does. It'd be the first time for her, something new. When she'd played around with pleasure and pain before, it had only been with her wire and her hands, no other weapon. She'd never inflicted any injuries but bruises around necks.]
[As always, there's that very faint feeling almost like shame, that she should want to have that kind of power over someone, but that's overcome by the shiver of anticipation running down her back. Kaworu's so excited-- even over text, he manages to seem excited. Willing. And if the water really heals anything, there's no worry at all.]
can we do it somewhere private, though? like a hotel? i don't want anybody walking in and freaking out, that kind of thing. and i want to test it out, too. just to be sure all the green water works that way and you didn't get some extra pure water or something like that.
[His sincerity is strong enough to radiate from each letter. Seriously, Kaworu feels so much better to know that he can explore his sexuality with someone who has corresponding experience. It's unsettling to have had the same body for so long and still not understand its peculiarities. He wants to understand himself...]
Just tell me when and where, and I promise to arrive promptly. Whatever you need to do to prepare is what should be done. It's not worth it if you're uncomfortable with any part of this.
[Not to mention, the idea of somewhere private is appealing to him as well. He doesn't want to burden his stern next-door neighbor with any sounds he may or may not make--she told him that she prefers to have silence.]
[It's almost strange to find someone that honestly sincere. Haruki's never come across anyone like that, anyone who had that brand of niceness. No, it's more than that. He sounds wise. Calming.]
okay. meet me in an hour? i'll send you directions to the hotel in a minute, and the room number once i get it. i'll pay.
In an hour, then. I'll find a way to repay you for everything.
[Kaworu would pay the fare if he had any extra money... but he has budgeted his income on rent, a minimal amount of food, and a lot of makeup. Oh well.]
8/3, early evening or so.
Aloha.

[She responds pretty quickly. Haruki remembers him, and fondly, though they'd only spoken once. Well, he'd spoken-- she'd just texted.]
's good to hear from you. how's it going, kaworu?

So, what have you been up to?

Lots of people? Really?? I didn't realize...
